Helpful Hints For Renters
Three simple bits of information to aid in your search:
1. Price Range
What is your desired price range? Having an idea of your ideal monthly payment vs. your maximum monthly payment will be helpful to your would-be landlord. Generally Landlords look for two to three times the rent in gross monthly income (before taxes).
2. Size Of The Space
How much space do you need? Typically this is a number of bedrooms, but sometimes the number of bathrooms, or any particulars regarding upgrades or amenities would be discussed at this point of the conversation. An example would be "I am looking for a two bedroom apartment or home, preferably with a gas stove, central heating and air, hardwood floors and lots of natural light".
3. When Are You Looking To Move
Your time frame will surely aid your prospective Landlord, especially if they have a lot of inventory. A range is helpful but not necessary. The Landlord may know of some upcoming homes that are not currently being advertised. It never hurts to ask if they have any spaces coming available that are not currently being advertised.
